Are you interested in taking parties mountaineering?
The Scout Association has clear rules associated with these activities which
can be found on
www.scoutbase.org.uk
To lead groups on routes over 500m above sea level, more than 30 minutes
from help (i.e. road or farm) or which may involve any form of scrambling,
you are required to obtain an
M-Form Authorisation
from the Scout Association.
From
1st January 2005 you must
have attended either a WGL (Terrain One) or ML (Terrain Two) training course
through a recognised MLTB service provider before you apply for authorisation.
The application form for authorisation can be obtained on
www.scoutbase.org
FS120416 (Application for Authorisation for Hill Walking). This must be completed
and signed by yourself, your GSL and your DC and then be forwarded to:
Colin James, County Mountain Activities Advisor, 17 Woodridge Avenue, Coventry,
CV5 7PY along with:
- Proof of your MLTB Training
- A log book of your experiences
- A current First Aid certificate.
Once this has been received, you will be contacted by one of the County Mountain
Assessors who will discuss your application and arrange the dates for a formal
assessment. Assessment normally takes place over two days for Terrain One
authorisation, or one day and one weekend for Terrain Two authorisation.
After you have demonstrated to your Assessor that you are capable of meeting
the standard required by the Scout Association, a recommendation will be forwarded
to your DC for approval.
Should you be interested in discussing any of the above or have any queries
relating to training or assessment please contact
Colin James.
