Child Protection Policy - A Code of Good PracticeThis document is intended as an advisory Code of Good Practice and contains certain advice when persons are going to be in contact with young people in our charge. Young people being between 6 - 18 years. The document Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR October 2003 edition) lays down explicitly the procedures to be followed when adults are being appointed as leaders, administrators and advisers in Scout Groups - see Chapter 5. The District appointments sub-committee is a mandatory sub-committee of every District Executive committee, its responsibilities are firmly laid down in POR - see Chapter 4. The County appointments sub-committee is a mandatory sub-committee of every County Executive committee and its responsibilities are firmly laid down in POR - see Chapter 5. In respect of occasional helpers/volunteers who may be involved with activities involving young persons on Camp Sites, Gang Shows, International Camps and visits abroad etc. many of these people will have had a previous CRB check through the system of appointments committees. However this must be checked by the organising committee and a CRB check completed before these adults supervise the young people. Parents, family members, and Scouting friends may from time to time provide a useful service to camps and providing transportation. This category of volunteers should also be CRB before supervising the young people. NB Adults should also be advised not to travel alone with children who are not family members. It is quite a useful practice for all parents when their sons/daughters initially join the movement for them to be CRBd and this paperwork can be undertaken by Group Secretaries and appears to be a practical means of meeting the requirements imposed on us. Below are forms relevant to the appointment of adults:

Membership DetailsIt is important that when a young person joins the movement that all the leaders within the Group are fully aware of any particular needs the person may have.If there are needs, it is most important that these are fully discussed with all parties involved in the care of the young person e.g. the young person, parent/carer and any outside agencies if the parents are in agreement, and the leaders. If appropriate help and/or advice is needed, please contact your County or District Special Needs adviser. It is strongly recommended that the parent or appropriate adult completes a registration form, that is suitable to your circumstances, for membership prior to the young person joining the Group. There is a suggested Annual Registration form in the Special Needs essentials that you could use. |
