Monday March 1st
Off to a Development meeting, with the results of our census high on the agenda. Our young person membership has grown by 6%. From these results we hope the development group can look towards where we need to increase sections, groups etc. This will give every young person who wants to join our adventure the chance to do so.
Wednesday 3rd
Tonight a meeting of the county management team, again a chance to discuss opportunities relating to our census figures. Other issues for discussion were the support the county is giving to the 2011 Jamboree and the forthcoming Gang Show.
Thursday 4th
With the fast approaching camping season the Rough Close Management committee were discussing preparations for the new season. There seems a lot of work to be done and very little time but our various Service Crews and work parties are busy making plans to achieve the right results.

Thursday 11th
A last chance to visit the Gang Show rehearsals before their big week. It’s amazing to see how far they have come since last November.
Saturday 13th
Greg Bull and I attended a Regional C.C’s and Chairman’s conference, meeting with the other's from our Region. The chair was taken by Mark Tarry the new Deputy Chief Commissioner for England.
This gave us an insight of some of the challenges and opportunities coming over the next 3 years. It was disappointing to learn of the size of waiting lists and we were all asked to put this high on our agenda’s for the forthcoming year.
Monday 15th
I attended the Charterhouse District Leaders meeting, always a lively meeting and with a forthcoming District camp on the agenda there was plenty to discuss.
Wednesday 17th
County Executive night, finance being a top priority as we approach the end of another financial year.
March 22nd to 27th
Gang Show week!!!!!
I started the week by visiting the Belgrade on the Sunday afternoon as preparations were getting underway. There was no doubt that the number of members of the teams was impressive and the commitment tremendous.
I continued the week by visiting the Belgrade each evening either back stage or front of house and wherever I was there was tremendous support for the show.
Friday night I had the Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Brian Kelsey and his wife and our President Clive Benfield as guests. Each was extremely impressed with the show.
Finishing off the week with two visits on the Saturday, for a week where the Gang Show put on a great advert for Coventry Scouting. Saturday also gave me the opportunity to present Simon Gibson with an Award of Merit for the work he puts into Scouting in Coventry.
Monday 29th
I attended a meeting together with Sarah Miller and Dave Atkin with some members of the Council educational team and their outdoor education manager regarding them using Rough Close for outdoor education for dis-advantaged children.
Thursday April 1st

Although the weather forecast is poor there is still a lot to be done.

Dodging the showers a lot of work has been done from fencing to bridging a ditch. Members of both Bablake and Caludon district explorer scouts were helping the crew over the weekend.
Thursday 8th
County Activity team meeting, with the County Mountain Experience weekend in the next two weeks plans were being put in place to put on the best opportunities possible.
Other discussions centered on the changes to the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and its effect on Scouting.
Monday 12th
Tonight I met with Chris Sherlock and Sam Booth to interview for the position of District Commissioner. The position is quite demanding and getting the right person in place gives the opportunity to keep moving the District forward.
Thursday 15th
I attended the Caludon District leaders meeting. More lively discussion on many subjects including the new Child Safeguarding and CRB processes. Neil Adcock welcomed Liz Millard as the new Leader Training Manager for Caludon and then introduced the new Young Leader Training opportunities to the District.
April 16th 17th 18th
I joined in with the County Activity team and leaders from both Coventry and Warwickshire for the Mountain Experience weekend. This year held at Betws-y-coed in Snowdonia.
The weather was great and it gave all the leaders a chance to perfect their skills ready to given better programme choice to our young people.
Tuesday 20th
Our final St Georges Day celebration meeting for this yeas event. It all seems to be coming together thanks to Chris Sherlock, Sarah Miller, Sam Rowe, Bob Tansy and Simon Daley. All we need now is a fine day and a good turnout.
Saturday 24th
Tricia and I were invited to the Warwickshire Branch of the Order of the Royal Society of St George Banquet in the marvelous setting of St Mary’s Hall. The entertainment during the meal was the 13th Coventry Scout Band playing in concert.
It made us really proud to be there.
Sunday 25th
After a week of positive publicity our day has arrived. Our celebration to St George who was selected by Baden Powell to be our patron Saint took place.
The weather was fine, the turnout good with lots of interested bystanders present. Again we invited the Lord Mayor of Coventry Cllr Jack Harrison to take the salute.
The celebration was for young people put on by young people and was well received by everyone.
The day was a great success and only achieved with the help of many people including the BP Service Crew, the 3rd Service Crew and the groups who manned stalls adding to the day.
